Need advice on starter build for machine learning.

Hi guys, looking to build something cheap as a starter machine for machine learning, hopefully under 500 dollars if possible.

I looked at some online recommendation at this price range, and right now am looking at a used brand name tower (Lenovo M93, i5 4th gen quad core, 16GB RAM, SSD and HDD, ~$200), and a GTX 1660 6GB (~$250), only thing is the power supply will be tricky to upgrade as they don't use standard size and wiring. I've seen short one-fan version gtx 1060 using only pci-e for power supply which might not need a power supply upgrade, but I am afraid they might not cut it for this GPU-intensive purpose.

No gaming or anything else. I've got laptops for all my personal usage.

Thanks a lot.

1080 Ti was the go-to for a long while, and still does well. Comes down to....do you need to train your models asap....or you have time and electricity is cheap for you...

What area of ML are you looking into? Image or video processing? Text? Signal processing?
