Need to hide dumb ceiling angle in kitchen.

Sorry I couldn’t figure how to get photos posted here as I don’t have them hosted online.

Here is a link to my dilemma:
https://www.house-improvements.com/foru ... b3ba4684cf

I’d rather wall it all off and lose the space than look at that everyday. Ideally I’d prefer a pantry and door. Any ideas welcome.

Oh and if linking to another site is against the rules please remove.

I agree with the guy on the other forum.

Not so easy there Ma…
What I would consider trying first would be to paint the back wall and the part that juts out the same colour as the ceiling, white, so that it blends in better. Maybe you can render that?

Closet set up, with bifold doors will give you the most access

This whole remodel means you’ll lose both counter top * & cupboards … but the pantry will more than make up for the latter

And YES … the BIG BONUS your kitchen will look oodles better … the way it is now is just weird

* Curious what the measurement is for the current counter run from the existing wall to past where the new wall & door will be closer to your sink … in line with the room wall. Also what is the depth from the new wall to back wall. Cuz if you are ripping out counter & cupboards on both sides … then ya it’s gonna be more room than closet … and looks to be a decent depth.

PS … I liked your rendering. But you truly need a proposed floor plan to see true dimensions for the BEFORE & AFTER

Oh I’m only planning to wall off and pantry beyond where the fridge is now. So the counter space on the sink side will remain save for the 4 inches or so of wall thickness I’ll lose. The first staircase angle isn’t a bother really so I’ll keep that space open. It’s the second one beyond the fridge that I want to hide but have some function of the available space.

cant you tuck the fridge in there and make a bulk head on top so it looks like the fridge is counter depth, then put pantries and cabinets and stuff on the right of the fridge.

I personally hate bifold doors and would never even put them in my bedroom closet let alone stuck in the middle of my kitchen. They always jam and stick out and are generally in the way.

I don’t think the kitchen (or that corner) are big enough to pull off a closed in closet. You will end up with a smaller feeing kitchen and a very difficult to use pantry. Your kitchen will end up less functional if you box in that corner.

I would build in thoughtful custom shelving and the fridge into that corner in some way. Embrace the weirdness and put in something clever and built in. But whatever you do, leave it open - you don’t have enough room there for a door and walk-in style pantry.

Digging these 2 suggestions even more than the first pantry idea.

Fridge will have a screen that tv casts to for the breakie bar so having it in the far end doesn’t work. Also I think the angle comes down too far to be able to center it.
Not keen on bifold doors either. Maybe a pocket door that slides left into the wall that I have built?

Losing 4-5 inches of depth for a wall with a door framed in isn’t a concern. Remember we’re only talking about the area beyond where the fridge is now. I haven’t lived there yet so losing that space won’t be noticeable.

* Take out the corner unit (counter, cupboards) preserving them
* reposition the fridge there flush with the angled front as far left as possible
* Build custom open shelving to the left of the fridge (or something like over/under pull out recycling, small broom/cleaning closet, etc)
* Do same thing on right of fridge but maybe something fancier (wine racks, pot hangers, etc)
* X-style Wine rack upper/right of fridge... already have that 45deg angle, might as well use it !

Figure something out for where the fridge was, like... a 14" deep "counter" where you have toaster and other small appliances, for example, with open spice rack shelving above maybe.

Coordinate with a countertop change after you've figured out the layout you like enough to make it permanent.

Build custom millwork into the wall. You can put a rectangular panel on the front of your millwork to hide the odd shape. You will only see the odd shape when you open the cabinet. Make sure you have enough clearance from the fridge so you can open the door properly though (which may require you to move the fridge closer to the stove). Nothing is worse than a fridge against a wall.

Yep. That’s why the fridge is going to the opposite end.

Anyone know how far you can move a stove without needing a new plug installed? I think I’ll need to move it 2-3 feet.

Are you redesigning the kitchen or are you asking to make it less of an eye sore?

Well I think if you look at the pics I can’t have the fridge on the end and keep the stove where it is.

Why not? Personal I like that idea best. I'm also really against screens on a fridge though.

Cause I don’t want the fridge in the hallway! So I’d have to move the stove down a bit to keep the counter space between the fridge and stove.

I agree. the fridge won't fit, or if it does, it won't be centered. I'm just poking fun at the fact that what started as something simple (ie. filling the space) is slowly turning into a full kitchen reno :). It's how these things go... I should know lol.
