Nest need to offer free 1 day or even 6 hours of real play backtime. Camera is pretty useless without the subscription.

Drop Nest and go with Xiaomi, no sub required as there is local storage via SD or NAS.

I have both. But felt that Nest is better in terms of using as a baby monitor due to:
1) Least Delay
2) It picks up Baby crying / voices very loudly and clearly even when there is white noise playing in the background.
3) Real time 2 way Audio Communication (Xiaomi is PTT).
4) Clarity when zoomed in is much much better, so that I can leave it zoomed on the baby's face and I can check if the baby is awake or sleeping.

Makes sense for that amount of detail.
My usage is for basic surveillance.
