New "Dark Mode" for RFD Forums

With all the recent discussion about white space, one of our developers took it upon himself to create a dark mode for the forums. What this does is make the backgrounds darker and text lighter so that it becomes easier to read under certain conditions. It’s not a setting on RFD but rather a stylesheet which you’ll need to setup in your browser (Firefox or Chrome).

This is NOT officially supported by RedFlagDeals.com so any problems with it will only be addressed at the developers discretion and as time permits. You will find the instructions on how to apply this stylesheet in the link below. Any users who wish to modify the stylesheet are free to customize it however you like.

We’d love to hear your feedback and any questions you might have.

Easy install using Stylus
- Download the Stylus extension [Chrome] [Firefox]
- Install the RFD Dark Mode stylesheet via userstyles.org https://userstyles.org/styles/132648/re ... -dark-mode

Here’s the Stylus FAQ, which includes instructions on how to migrate installed styles from Firefox Stylish into Stylus

Advanced users
The original CSS file upon which the file is based is provided on the Github link below if you wish to use a different method of applying the dark mode style.

I've been using Care Your Eyes extension Night Mode theme on Chrome for browsing RFD since day one of launching the new RFD platform. Its default Night Mode looks pretty much the same as this custom style extension.

Please consider making this a forum setting in the future! :) (for those of us who can't install web scripts)

I still prefer the old style but compared to that eye-burning new style this dark mode is very acceptable. Thank you Mr. Developer, whoever you are!

I like it. Unfortunately I won't be able to use it at work.

Since it's now a phpBB board, that's pretty basic stuff:
You can also set your board's default style. The board will appear to your guests and members in the Default Style. In the standard phpBB installation, two styles are available: prosilver and subsilver2. You can either allow users to select another style than the default by selecting No in the Override User Style setting or disallow it. Please visit the styles section to find out how to add new styles and where to find some.

There's already several dark styles available: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/styl ... f87464342d

It shouldn't be hard to add the style you've now created. Regardless of whether or not you want to "support" it.

+1 vote here. I've seen other forums having this mode available

Obviously, dialing down the white is even easier to do...Instead of RedFD..it's more like WhiteFD now :D

Aside from being dark, the actual functionality in this theme is better than the default one. For example, the links are much more distinguishable. This is also much easier on my eyes. Thank you!

It's good but the Red is very bright. Is there any way to adjust it?
