New FireFox - Nerfs / Kills Restore Session?

Any idea as to what the eggheads at Mozilla were thinking when they deployed the new Firefox?

Chrome, Brave, and Opera all handle session restores properly but now it looks like Firefox does not... is this a legacy extension issue or a fundamental feature change?

Strangest thing.

Firefox is my main browser and I don't use session restore very much... what exactly is the issue and where can I find the prompt to try it? Are you saying there is NO session restore anymore?

I like their dark mode on my Android devices, it's actually not too bad on IOS as well (my iPad).

I run two dozen tabs and only restart upon update.

In this case, restore brought nothing back.

It seems that's normal now.

Everything normally works by default. Now I have to look through the config on each system installation.

Frustrating.

Probably just a one off for you perhaps.

I use the beta as my main browser so it updates fairly often and it always restores my previous session. That said, I don't normally use the restore session feature all that often in general use.

Might be a now incompatible extension.

I'll look into it.

Why do you use an extension when there is a builtin session restore capabilities?

What do you mean by "new Firefox"? I've been on 89.0.2 for a week maybe, before that 89.0.1 and 89. In 89 they introduced something called Proton. I disabled it right away. Maybe it's the reason of your problems?

I didn't say the extension was related to session restore, other than possibly interfering with it.

I'll look into Proton.

I couldn't understand what extension you meant.

If you want to disable Proton go to about:config, search for "proton" and make everything false. I doubt it had anything to do with session restore but who knows. I suppose you have "Restore previous session" checked in settings. I don't use this feature.

I always used a Session Manager extension in Firefox for as long as I can remember, because even in the older versions of FF it was never reliable to save tabs on exit and then when you restore nothing comes back. It just happens randomly and there is no explanation as to why. You could be fine for months and then one day, randomly, the tabs just don't restore and youre SOL unless you open everything up from history.

In FF89 I use Tab Session Manager https://addons.mozilla.org/en-CA/firefox/addon/tab-session-manager/ it works pretty good, you can customize it however you like, it makes auto-saves and etc, a nice fallback if FF ever fails to restore your tabs you can just open up the extension and restore them as it makes backups. Check it out, good extension.

Excellent.

I'll install it on our workstations after testing

Let's hope it plays well with Multiaccount container extension.

Otherwise, it looks good so far.

I've been using it since 2019, so far so good on my end. Just all these stupid FF rushed updates break things. Not surprising people were having issues with Proton when it changed in June of this year. The new floaty tabs not so good.

Never needed a Session Manager extension with Chrome. That browser always seems to be able to restore tabs without issue, ever since I've used it. FF should take notes.
