[Newegg] ASUS Blue Cave AC2600 Dual-Band WiFi Router - $87.87 w/Free Shipping

Newegg.ca has the Asus Blue Cave wireless router on sale for $87.87 with free shipping today. It seems like a well reviewed router. Keep in mind this is a Dual Band Wi-Fi 5 router, but based on it's performance it seems like pretty good bang for buck for under $100.

A fork of a Chinese firmware that uses some Merlin's features can be found here:

I have two Asus XT8 units, will this work as a good node with it? Or actually just a solid wireless bridge to XT8 unit to use the Ethernet ports on it?

I’d like to buy to try it but the Negwegg return policy seems horrible.

“Returns are subject to restocking fees of 15% - 30% of the purchase price.”

This is alarming...

"The Blue Cave topped out at delivering 439.1 Mbps 5 feet from the router, less than half the output of the TP-Link Archer C2300 (963.6 Mbps)"

I've had this a few years now. Asus routers seem to have decent longevity. It made a big difference when I stopped using the Rogers unit as a wifi router.

My biggest problem was using using TP Link smart plugs, and it kept crashing the wifi.

I never figured it out, so at the time I set up a 2nd network in my house using another wifi router just for smart devices, wired back to the Blue Cave. No issues with that.

Now after moving, I still use the Blue Cave router, but have turned off the wifi in favour of using two wifi access points for better coverage. And wire them back to the Blue Cave. I haven't decided if I will swap out the Blue Cave soon for a wired only router to better complement the TP-Link access points I have installed.

Can anyone using this as part of AiMesh able to comment? I have a 68u (primary) hooked up to a secondary router (non asus) with a wired backbone for increased coverage, but I was hoping to get into AiMesh with an old/2nd asus router when I can find a decent deal on one. Wondering if this is it?

The alternative is spending a bit more and buying a new primary router and turning my 68u into my secondary node.

Yes it does.

I have an Asus 86U that's in the kitchen. I hate how it looks. Would it be a downgrade to switch to the Blue Cave as the PRIMARY router and use the 86u as a mesh router?

anyone comments on This about parental control inbuilt with router, how advance they are?
I am looking for a router to just manage parental control built in.

I had 3 of these in a mesh system and it was terrible. Go them for $100 when Bestbuy was blowing them out a few years back. As far as I could tell the would crash when I was torrenting because they couldn't handle the multiple connections.

Ended up with a TP-Link Omada setup and haven't had a crash since.

It's terrible in a mesh but the best router for standalone, however it's not the fastest!

I just replaced one that was flawless with 30+ devices with an AX68U and seeing weird disconnects from my wireless sprinkler system I've never seen before.

Blue Cave is a benchmark in stability.

I have a pair of the TP Link EAP access points. I haven't yet looked into an Omada controller. Can you describe your set up?

I had AC66U and AC68U in mesh with wired back haul. WAN kept dropping, initially thought it was Cogeco but determined it was the routers after more troubleshooting. Got FTTH with HH4000 and it provides far superior whole home coverage on its own than two Asus routers. I am still running AC66U in AP mode to carry my 30+ Kasa devices. No issues with the current configuration. Just adding my 0.02 because I believed AI-Mesh would be good but I was wrong.

No worries. I was hoping this was possible. Thanks for the clarification.
