[Newegg] Asus RT-AC5300 Tri-band Gigabit Wireless Router $249.99 free shipping (Black Friday price) (Merlin firmware supported)

They usually tend drop it to $279.99 on promotion which is just OK but today they're repeating Black Friday's $249.99 with free shipping, for 2 days only.
For the folks who missed their first chance and DON'T need wifi 6.
RT-AC5300 supports merlin for those that care. GT-AC5300 does not.
Edit: Price is back for a few days as of 12/22.

Wait for ax86u to go back on sale for 279.99 and get that one instead.. I don't see much value in this router unless the price drops to 200 which is what it should be worth now with the outdated hardware. Gt5300 should be valued at 250.

AC5300 supports merlin for those that care. Gt5300 does not.

Waiting for the AX86U to go to at least 249.99 so I can take advantage of the BB/Staples Replacement plan they sell extra.

This is a high quality wave 2 AC router which will work with virtually all wireless stuffs out there. You don't necesaarily need AX if you don't have the hardware to support it. Besides most AX transceivers out there now in consumer gear are 2 antenna anyway.

Great router for the price.

Upvote for sticking Merlin in the title.

No Merlin? No buy.

Black Friday was $279.99, at best you could stack a $15 coupon so I'm not sure about $250 already on this fairly new router.

Wondering if it is supported by XWRT-VORTEX? Using R7000 currently, it should be good for a while, but looking forward to next-gen, is it a good candidate?

If you are looking for the next upgrade leap, I would suggest looking at RT-AX86U instead.

If you are asking about RT-AX86U, Asuswrt-Merlin added support since version 386.1
https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin ... ed-Devices

Xwrt-Vortex is a port of Asuswrt-Merlin, and is still at 384.19

Any input with how good this router is vs a mesh system like eero?
