Just picked up the Lenovo c940 the other day from the Microsoft sale for $999 - double storage and 4GB more ram... But Huawei. Worth the upgrade?

I think it's cheap because it probably has not sold well in Canada
Apparently the screen is among the absolute best that you can find..

That said for those that do buy this and use it.. there is one tweak that is a must and that is to disable "panel self-refresh"

There seems to be an active/supporter user community for this particular laptop over on reddit at /r/MatebookXPro
Lots more tweaks available to make this laptop better for power users.

It seems totally worth it at this price point, but sadly maybe only at this price point does it make sense.

The processor and the discrete GPU have been long left behind by current generation processors and GPUs (even integrated shared vRAM GPUs) by both Intel (11th gen) and AMD (4000 and 5000). In other words, "weak" processing (for current standards) in an otherwise attractive package (nice screen, weight, quality, etc.). It's like buying a flagship product 1 or 2 (or 3) years after being launched. It has lost its edge.

At MSRP, 100% has to be Apple M1 laptops. Absolutely no competition right now. And performance gap will probably grow when Apple releases the M1S/M2..
It also depends on use case. If needing speed for rendering/CPU heavy tasks, I think M1 is still the winner by far.

However, with a significant discount like this.. I think one could consider 10th gen Intel if one doesn't require the speed

I have the older version of this. It has been a great laptop. Design is great and runs well for an ultra book. I don't need a new laptop but this deal is tempting.

You can use GCR for 1.3% cashback. Careful buying this as you are responsible for the shipping cost to send back to Newegg.

Here's a random Lenovo alternative in the same price range (~CAD1300), high resolution and high pixel density: ThinkBook 13s 2nd Gen, i7-1165G7, 13.3" WQXGA (2560 x 1600) IPS, glossy, touchscreen with Dolby Vision™, low power, 300 nits, 16 GB LPDDR4X 4266MHz (Soldered), 512 GB PCIe SSD, etc.
$1270 through EPP, https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/ibmeppfrie ... 20V9004FUS

Just shop around. The main difference is the screen aspect ratio and overall resolution. You might get similar screens in Lenovo laptops with BYO options, thought the screen AR might be harder to come by.

They are like one of the most scrutinized company because of its tie to China and those 'stealing data's accusations are baseless. Companies like google have much more data about you. I think this is a pretty attractive package but then I'm not a fan of that aesthetics, too similar to macbook. A Matt black thinkpad looks more sleek imo.
