Rant:
What I don't understand is how laptops were getting cheap and then somehow became expensive. In 2012 or so, you would think we would have this kind of laptops for $200-300. But no. Comparatively, the same spec phones are so much cheaper even though it started a lot later. I can't even look at laptops, even ridiculous dual core chromebooks are $300. I bought dual core laptop 8 years ago for about the same price.
End of rant.

These things will run circle around a dual core laptop from 8 years ago and weight about 2/3 as much. If all you care is how many core the CPU has and how bit the screen is, yes. It sounded like we are not progressing, but laptop technology really changed a lot since then.

Seems like a decent price but 17 too big for me. Need something a little smaller.

How about the fact if you want a laptop with dedicated gpu instead of integrated stuff (especially if you want to do light gaming), it's actually more expensive now than back in 2012. I have a Samsung laptop with both A10 processor AND dedicated Radeon GPU. Only paid $600. Then before that it was a Gateway i3 laptop with Radeon graphics and only paid $650.

Now if you want laptop with more than integrated graphics especially if you are looking to do light gaming, looking at $800-$900.

Why, you think the price will keep going down in number until they have to start giving you money to take it?

"Laptops" were never ever that cheap, even in 2012. Maybe you're thinking *netbooks*. A proper laptop has always been set to above the 400-500$ mark, which is much better than 8 years ago where it would've cost you around 800$ just to get a Celeron. HP Stream "laptop" for around 250$ is probably as cheap as you can get, but it's really more a "netbook" by today's CPU standards.

If you want to buy a decent spec laptop at only 250$, you'll have to buy off-lease. Nobody is going to sell you a proper laptop new at that price.

Anyway, going back to today's pricing, 600$ for a FHD screen, an i5 and 8GB RAM is a steal. The Dell one is sold out but the Lenovo one is still in stock.

Honestly, the 450$ 1TB 8GB Ram I5-Fifth Gen. from Dell/Microsoft Store was a pretty darn good deal. If anything, laptops are a bit cheaper from what I remember.

In terms of phones, I don;t think I'll ever need more than 16GB. All I store is pics till I back them up. It's crazy how people are okay with paying a lot more for storage.

im not - I have a 16gb blackberry but even that gets quite full with a bunch of apps and updates over time and a few hundred pics tops.

I like having a microsd option for a quick $25 upgrade for 64gb of music/video storage - I just hate how the phones Samsung/apple release cost you "$799 MSRP" yet that's limited to 16gb for life, while any larger is roughly $1k+
