[Newegg] Hot? HGST DeskStar NAS 3.5" 6TB 7200 RPM drive $189.99 w\coupon code

Just came across this on Newegg. These are fairly well-rated drives (made by WD), sale price is $199.99 but coupon code CEMCEEPW26 brings them down to $189.99. I need some new drives for my new Synology DS918+ and 4 of these would work nicely. Hard to find historical pricing on these but this seems like a good deal, however, with BF just around the corner, a BBD (Bigger, Better Deal) may be coming up.

Thanks for clarifying what a BBD is... I would have been scratching my head.

For this price... personally I would say it's hot enough, don't think BF will go cheaper than this( I mean for same brand and model, personally prefer HGST to Seagate ).
Thx OP, bought 10!

Bloody bad day would have been my guess if I had to.

Not a bad price for 6TB DeskStar. Just wish these drives were more quiet.

$199.99 was a good price for the 6TB back in February. I bought several of the 6 and 8 TB's for the home NAS. All are still working with no problem.

Are these good as a desktop storage drive? Or are these optimized for NAS and I should be looking for something else?

They are fine for desktop storage as well.

For certain it could get cheaper, as it has been in the past. I bought this on June 6, 2018 for $172.89, including tax and environmental fee, from the Newegg eBay store. Considering the prices have actually gone up since then I wish I bought more... But hindsight.

The drive is as noisy as my washing machine.

The drive had bad sector and got replaced with a new one, so far the new one has been working well for a year now.

They are pretty good, but they tend to be noisy. Not a problem for my NAS that's hidden in a closet but could be annoying for a personal PC.

Thanks. I was looking for them to be on sale again to buy two for my off-site backup purposes (found it annoying spreading my data backup across multiple 2TB drives the HGST 6GBs replaced). :-)

Not a super-great sale price, but less than I bought my original two for.

As for historical pricing, what I found seems to indicate that they don't seem to go below $199.99 often.

Not a crazy deal by any means, but a deal that routinely is off and on available. I picked a 6TB HGST from Newegg for 199 back in December.
