If you are worried about being spied upon, It would be recommended you stay away from any form of telecommunications. Most traffic gets routed to US servers, one way or another.

What's the risk?
"Man in the middle" can record every second of your voice calls (i.e. your ISP, or some small hacker group). There's no decrease in risk from state actors since they can tap your line when it enters the POTS network, or simply break whatever encryption your using.

So, whether that's a risk or not is up to you to decide.

Call Encryption - TLS/SRTP
Call encryption (SRTP) goes hand in hand with connection security (TLS)
TLS/SRTP are particulary important when VoIP calling over public/insecure WiFi.
TLS protects your registration credentials, and the initial key exchange for SRTP.
VoIP.ms is one of very few providers offering TLS on the SIP connection.
Awesome. Though note that call recording is not free:
Recording calls has a cost of $0.0025 (0.25 cents) per minute.
Useful post by "OzarkEdge" at dslreports on setting up encryption on the Obi202:
VoIP.ms TLS/SRTP Call Encryption - encrypts communication between the SIP client and the VoIP.ms server by using the SIP-TLS (Transport Layer Security) and SRTP (Secure Real-Time Transport Protocol) protocol.

Strongly recommended for softphone users on unsecured public WiFi to protect their SIP registration credentials.

To enable:

1. Enable the SIP-TLS and SRTP protocol on each VoIP.ms main and/or sub accounts (Beta Access Program users only... can be enabled in the VoIP.ms portal).

2. Configure the SIP client for the TLS transport protocol and for SRTP media encryption as Mandatory.

3. You must use a VoIP.ms server name with a number at the end. For example, you must use washington1.voip.ms instead of washington.voip.ms. DID POP server can remain washington.voip.ms... the only option.

4. The TLS protocol uses TCP as the packet transport (TLS over UDP is not supported by the TLS specification). VoIP.ms TLS over TCP will use port 5061 instead of 5060 (alternative ports are 5081 and 42873 instead of 5080 and 42872).

5. When the SIP client is fully registered using the SIP-TLS protocol, account registration status in the VoIP.ms portal will indicate Registered and Padlocked in green.

6. No SIP client certificate installation is required.

7. Some SIP clients may not support call encryption, such as basic/free versions of softphones.

Proposed OBi Service Provider and Voice Service settings:

Service Providers - ITSP Profile A - SIP
SIP::ProxyServer = washington1.voip.ms
SIP::ProxyServerPort = 5061
SIP::ProxyServerTransport = TLS
SIP::RegistrarServerPort = 5061
SIP::OutboundProxyPort = 5061

Voice Services - SP1 Service
X_KeepAliveServerPort = 5061
Calling Features::X_SRTP = Use SRTP Only

Update: OBi202 firmware 3.2.2.5859EX seems to work. Free Zoiper also works. OBi202 firmware 3.1.1.5589 does not work. OBi202 firmware 3.2.2.5921EX may work except for a trunk group bug.

Looks like a recent firmware may be required.

Old RFD threads show this as $45 is the historical low. When will it come back at that price - I’m still waiting
