[Newegg] Samsung EVO860 500GB $99.99

Slightly better price than Staples deal in April by $10, expiry date wasn't specified.

Obligatory buyer beware on Samsung SSDs. Good luck with warranty. It's a pain in the ass if you ever need to RMA as they try to bounce you back to the retailer.

Did SSD prices stop going down? It was $89 in around October at Staples and they had a $25 off $100 coupon as well at the time.

$99 at most places right now. And you can get a $10 coupon from Staples and you need a 1c filler.

I did get this for quite a bit cheaper last year but $99 seems to be the current sale price.

What's wrong with Samsung SSD? Just warranty or is it a bad SSD? I have one that I got on BF for $7x but need a second one. Any other brand recommendations?

I've had a Samsung pro (not Evo ) ssd on my gaming for well over 5 years. The pro is of a higher quality but I'd say Samsung is really good

I dunno that Samsung warranty or reliability is worse than anyone else, my friends and I have used a variety of Samsung SSDs over the years and have had no issues. As far as an alternative, try the CRUCIAL MX500. Close to Samsung performance at a cheaper price. I've only had one for about a month and it is fine so far, knock on wood.

EDIT Crucial not Corsair

I think Samsung makes some of the best SSD in terms of reliability and performance. But in case they do fail, the warranty process is horrible, from what I hear. I've bought 5 Samsung SSDs, and they haven't failed me yet (knock on wood).

They've been going up since November.

Not sure when, just some months ago, I paid 75$ with coupon all in from Staples (15% taxes).

Yeah, you would be too if you had to spend as much time on the phone as I did, going back and forth between Samsung and Best Buy (who had no idea why I was calling about warranty for an SSD 3 years old). All in all it was over an hour on the phone and several weeks before I finally got an RMA through successfully.

This is common knowledge:

www.pcpartpicker.com will do that all that for you, great site. But from my recent research this is about a going sale price, most PC hardware has gone up since the pandemic as the site will demonstrate. So OP's title is accurate in calling it warm.

EDIT: OP had it described as warm but a site admin changed it

Corsair did sell SSD at 1 pt but rebranded from another company, not sure if they still make them though

Been using a few Samsung SSD for 3-5+ yrs, none of them failed as far. Had the 830, 840 pro, 860 evo.

Corsair makes SSD's the same way Adata does. They buy a controller, some NAND and a PCB and put it together. They still sell the MP510 and MP600 off the top of my head. The former is one of the better SSDs not sold by Samsung/WD in PCIe 3.0, though prices in the last few months have rendered it not worth it since other brands (Sabrent Rocket comes to mind) use the same parts and the latter is one of the only PCIe 4.0 drives on the market.
