I have been using the same drive pictured (Backup Plus Hub) in the eBay ad since last November and it's been perfect.

The Newegg link has a picture of the Expansion?

I've had failures with all brands and sizes of drives. I just make sure that important stuff is copied to at least one more place.

Pretty solid drive for me so far. I have a NAS with my data stored in RAID and learned the hard way that "RAID isn't backup"... In particular RAID5. I have bought externals as backup for the NAS and now have two of these duplicating my NAS and will keep one of those off site as extra backup (need to start doing that!).

This one should be shuckable:
Nobody cares which companies you use/subscribe to on a monthly basis unless there is a deal to be had. Why advertise for them in your forum signature?

Yes, but the speed will be restricted to whatever USB 2.0 is.

why do they sell a hair cheaper on their ebay store as opposed to their website? do they avoid warranty or something that way?

it's $239 on newegg.ca, they add tax, then there's a promo code where they take $30 off. code SGEXT58903

Saving money on things I don't need since 2009. thanks RFD

Get snapraid. Can be used in Windows and Linux and will save you tons of space if you have many TBs of data.

Interesting to know that the 8tb external drive is not always the 5900 RPM Archiving unit. Can anyone confirm that they have also shucked this drive and also found the 5900 RPM Archiving unit?

The just stopped calling it Archive. It was and still is an SMR drive. Nevertheless, someone will come in and say it's not an archive drive. It's a fine drive, just know what you're buying.
