Tigerdirect has WD Red 3 TB for $149.99 just for comparision to this deal.

I would have more trust in WD drives then these Toshies with this much data.

Just pointing this out to those who want to start looking at drives above 1tb without a raid configuration to store to a reliable source drive.

WD Red (non-Pro) are 5400 RPM though, v. this which is 7200 RPM. Funny part is if you look at some of the reviews for the Toshiba ppl complain about it not being fast enough. So Red is going to be even slower for those folks.

I'm not buying either (I do need a couple 5tbs but I have another plan as these drives won't match what I have already) but personally I'm not a fan of 5400 RPM in 2017. Pretty much any HDD above 1TB shouldn't be "trusted" anyway as they seem much more likely to fail and they hold a relative lot of data of course. As always, have a backup with any important data, on any HDD you choose.

Is it ok to mix and match HDDs in a Synology ds215j NAS. I already have a 3TB red installed, can I just add the 3TB toshiba in RAID 1 without issue?
