It was a bit less through Newegg last Summer and it can be frequently found for $250 or less in Amazon Warehouse Deals, if you're okay with an open box/returned unit. I bought mine for $240 through AWD a few months back and it was in like new condition. I know a lot of people aren't big on TP-LInk because it's a Chinese company, but this router works very well for the price. IMO, there's not much better in the same price range.

People don't like them all that much because it was discovered they were constantly sending your data to a third-party even if you disable the option.

So according to this link the Avira cloud database is trying to distinguish secure data from malware. The sending of data might be more of an Avira thing than TP-Link. In any case, TP-Link is working on firmware update that will give the user the option to disable it.

Another thing of note is, not all of their routers run Avira web security. The GX90 and several other routers are running Trend Micro HomeCare software instead of the Avira HomeShield software. Most of TP-Link's newer Archer/Deco router models come with Avira, but the older Archer/Deco routers come with Trend Micro. The GX90 is actually one their new models that still runs on the Trend Micro HomeCare software, not Avira HomeShield.

I have the GX90 and Deco X60 routers setup in two different homes, and I can confirm they both run the Trend Micro software. Keep in mind, only the older Deco X60 routers use Trend Micro. The newer Deco X60 version use Avira.
