I think it would be worth it, you'll be able to run a lot higher fidelity with no frame loss at the very least. but it's kinda moot I would just wait 6 months to see how things shake out with the next gen and better supply.

That's quite a rumour, but we can hope.Killmassacre wrote: ↑ It's rumored that even the lowest end gpu's (RTX 4060 12GB / RX 7700 8GB) will perform just as good as a 3080 in rasterization and a 3090 in ray-tracing. Even if they cost $800 CAD they'd still be a better deal.

I wouldn't spend over $1000 today for a card with only 8GB of video memory. There will be new cards from multiple vendor, as others mentioned and new cards always give much better chance of obtaining them via preorders and such.

Memory express called me yesterday to let me know the 3080 I ordered 2 years ago is no longer being made and my order is being canceled.

Based on how long it took me to get a 3080 (18 months on memory express wait list) I wouldn't plan on getting a 4000 gen card till 1-2 years after release (unless maybe a 60 or 70).
At that point people will be saying might as well wait for 5000 series.
Unless the trends change it looks like those of us unwilling to pay 2X MSRP will always be waiting nearly till the next generation for card availability.
The good news is the second hand market is very favorable to used cards. I bought my 2070S for $700 in 2019 and resold on kijiji at $800 in 2021 which covered over half the cost of the 3080 ($1300 for Rog STRIX LHR). And as soon as I sold the 2070S I got another offer of $950
