Was browsing the Nintendo E-Shop looking for games for my kids and stumbled upon this.

Revenge of the Bird King for .01 cent

I don't know if this game is any good but for 1 cent, I won't say no.

I wonder why they have games that drop to 1 cent. They can't possibly profit from it?

1 cent for the essential cost, however, considering the memory space in the switch for this game is more than 1 cent...lol

I think with enough sales it gets the game into a top sales rank, then they increase the price after it looks to be a popular game.

If they were unable to convince 1,000 people at $10 to buy, maybe convincing 1,000,000 people to spend a penny to get the same result is better? you have a million people now in front of your brand for your next game. You are top ranked on the switch store which entices people to buy at full price when they raise the cost.

The real question here is do you get a gold coin with purchase? If so, the game is essentially free.**edit** not eligible for a gold coin.**

I'm almost certain they lose money on payment processing fees - especially if the buyer uses Paypal.

Ya this is certainly just an effort to game the Eshop's horrible interface and setup. Without any kind of review system it's just the best selling games that float to the top, and what parents is going to say no to buying their kid a $6 game that outranks a $79 Mario game. These sales are purely marketing.

Just to add to this thread, this game is actually quite fun, reminds me of a mid to upper range NES action platformer. Back in the day this would have been a $60 NES game. Well worth it, especially at .01

That's not how it works for Nintendo shop. Nintendo does not pay the same processing fees as regular retailers, they are paying on total amount from all transactions. Then maker of the game gets a cut from Nintendo on total of all sales.
Moreover, I bet 99% are paying 1 gold coin and not actual money.

Is there a thread/location where cheap games are posted? I'm looking for puzzle games.
