[No Frills] 50% off 25lb case of roma tomatoes - $5 (YMMV)

No Frills (13071 Yonge St, Richmond Hill) had 25lb case of roma tomatoes reg $10 with 50% off sticker on it, bringing it down to $5 per 25lb case.

There was about a pallet of 30 cases a few hrs ago. The tomatoes are still pretty good, most are still firm.

YMMV as this could be location specific.

Grabbed 1 case - good for batch making sauce etc.

Thats a good price at 0.25cent/lb. Here in Vancouver, it is 0.99 on sale and up to 1.99/lb. heck even regular price is cheap.

I would suggest people pick wisely, wasn't at this location but I bought a case over the weekend and there were a few boxes that had noticeably rotten ones on top. Thankfully the box I picked was decent, maybe had to throw out 3-4 tomatoes

We do other meals like scrambled eggs + tomatoes, beef + tomatoes, roasted tomatoes etc.

Wait until muffin sees the boxes/bushels of multiple varieties of peppers and eggplants. Flushed Face

Visit a decent green grocer, particularly an Italian one or any Italian supermarket during harvest season.
While you’re at the Italian supermarket, pick up an entire pork shoulder (not a roast, the entire shoulder), sausage casings and pink salt to make your own sausages.

I cut the tomatoes in half, put dry rub on them and put them in the smoker for a few hours at 275°F cut side up. The flavours concentrate as the water evaporates, excellent to use however you want, salads, sauces etc. But I can't see myself buying 25 lbs of tomatoes.

I'd trade it all for a little more.
