I believe that they charge tax, and then when you use the balance for a purchase on the Uber app, you aren't charged tax.
I will tell my grandchildren about the deal I got on an HP Touchpad at the Bank street staples thanks to rfding.

This is actually a decent offer, especially if you have the Scotia Momentum Visa Infinite Card which you can earn 4% on "groceries" at NoFrills. So with the 10k points, worth at least $10 dollars (potentially more with redemption bonus), you are talking about at least 14% discounts or more.

My No Frills only had $60 Netflix cards tonight.....I'm going to grab $100 worth of cards from another retailer and take them to/activate at NoFrills. SDM had "choose the amount"cards in July.

No need to wonder. At one point, it was allowed but they closed that long ago when there was a crap load of PC points hacks/ fraud. The system knows not to deduct your points from the GC purchases if you had a mix purchase of stuff and GCs
