$1.50 in the West. Why is West always more expensive?

Sadly Canada is sparse and most food is processed in southern Ontario and Quebec.

I think there was a sale last year at no frills too where the price was $1 for the same Palmolive. People were buying boxes full of it then

Dawn Platinum will save you money in the long run because the Palmolive is watered down and you will use more to get suds (similar to Sunlight).

Okay, I admit, it's not the money saving aspect...I just think it's an inferior product and refuse to buy it.

How does the Palmolive Ultra compare to this regular Palmolive? I always buy the Ultra version. Is the Ultra comparitive to Dawn Platinum?

Think there are a few versions. Essentials is the basic and cheapest one.

I usually buy the big jug on sale at Costco. But can’t remember what it is exactly or the price.

Used to use Palmolive and then the Presidents Choice version of Ultra dish soap, but switched to Dawn Ultra and it's far better than any of the cheaper stuff. Platinum is even better but I just buy Ultra and its sufficient for my needs.

If I'm not wrong, Costco doesn't have the Palmolive essentials jug, they have Palmolive advanced which is said to be better quality. [..]

Like most users here I've tried a variety of brands and versions - just to find the "best for me", i.e. not only for cleaning power but also how harsh is on your hands / skin.

I'd rank those mentioned so far like this:
1. Palmolive Ultra - gets the top spot for me because it's not as harsh on my skin vs. Dawn.
2. Dawn (all versions)
3. PC Ultra
4. Palmolive Essentials - the definition of "watering-down" Smiling Face With Open Mouth
