[No Frills] PC Knife Set $24.33 (forged)

No frill PC Knife Set only $24.33, looks a good deal.

Yeah I know I know, it is made in China, the quality might be crappy but $24.33 for a whole forged knife set? I am in.

The materials have to be worth 15$, alone. Might be a cheap set but sharpened on a 1520 would be just fine for most tasks. Good find.

Sharpened on a speedy sharp and you’ll be surprised of the results

You can forge chocolate, and sharpen it, but it still won't hold an edge. Material of the blade is what makes a high quality knife, not the looks or "forged" moniker.

I have the 5 inch utility knife standalone for of this line and have been pleasantly surprised with how it keeps an edge. Obviously doesn't keep an edge like a quality Japanese knife (most of my knives are VG10 steel Japanese knives), but compared to those, this hones with a steel very easily.

I use it as a steak knife (don't like serrated steak knives) or for small cutting jobs like fruits and stuff.

I got the 5 inch utility for $7.99 on sale, so I think this set for under $25 is a good deal.

Don't expect German brand or Japanese brand quality, but for the price, I don't think you can find anything better if you need a set.

Downside is a bolstered blade, which makes sharpening more annoying, but I think for the general user it doesn't matter.

I used to get these knife blocks but did not like all the space they take up on my kitchen counter. So I've instead bought a knife set with each knife having a cover/sleeve for safety and I keep them in a drawer. Much less clutter in the kitchen.

Keep in mind that the material used is more important than the manufacturing method.

For example global knives are stamped but they are still regarded as some of the best knives.

I mean if you want to take up less space, get a magnetic knife bar. Takes advantage of your wasted vertical space.

Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.

Don’t need to hold an edge if you use speedy sharp to sharpen your knives, it takes less counter space than a steel too

I don't understand this. For one, nobody should leave a honing steel laying on a counter unless it's sitting neatly in a knife block. Put that thing in a drawer. But also, it's not really the counter space that's the problem, it's the sharpening. I don't want to freehand drag a carbide chunk across my knives every week scraping off a bunch of metal. I don't need to sharpen my knives every few uses, they stay sharp for months or years, so when I get around to sharpening them, I take my time and do it well.

I have one of these. Works great on my lawnmower blade. Not a chance it's getting anywhere near my kitchen knives...
