[No Frills] Smokehouse Bacon 500g - 2/$5 (Western Canada and a few stores in Western Ontario)

This deal starts tomorrow and is in the No frills West flyer which also includes 3 stores in Ontario (Geraldton, Kenora and Thunder Bay)

This is the kind of bacon that you stock your freezer full of for those baked potatoes and burgers. I will be buying a case.

I've seen this bacon in person and it's 90% fat.

The regular price for this bacon is $2.99 and it's a very poor quality product. This bacon isn't worth 99¢.
The strips are cut very badly that it tears and rip apart into pieces, it's hard to get a complete strip. And the fat percentage is way higher than normal bacon, it's +95% fat.

This bacon comes in a big tangled knot of very thin, fatty strips. You will not be able to separate nice individual strips for cooking. It's ok if you are chopping it raw and turning it into bacon bits, but it is not good for much else. And I agree that it is WAY fattier than other brands.

Ymmv, of course, but I find that if you actually take a look at the individual packages, you can find packs of the same quality as the usual brands. At this price, it's a no brainer, which probably explains why it was downvoted...

Thumbs because it's bacon. :)

Ukrainian skwadka is just pure pork fat rendered down to crunchy bits..

Here is a photo of 3 packs i bought a month ago at No Frills. At the time it was $1.97 but $2.50 is still great for a 500g bacon. The quality is excellent for bacon bits and hamburgers. If your looking for restaurant quality rashers that are photo perfect then downvote.

This brand is as bad as Carver's Choice bacon. In fact I wouldn't be surprised they were the same company.

This is a very low quality bacon,
Saying that....this is one of those sales where you show up to your local store the same day it it goes on sale...and it's already sold out.

Carver has a new low, they place a nice looking slice on top of the rest which are like 95% fat.

I feel for you OP. Didn't realize people bought bacon to be healthy. With meat prices right now, this is a good deal. Also I would support no frills over places like costco since the employees at most no frills are the ones that need the job most. And.... isnt bacon fat healthier to cook with than....say butter or margarine?

It’s okay bacon and I’d rather eat this than pay $5 for 375g of bacon.

This is like bacon scrap. I only buy them to make bacon bits. The pieces are cut very uneven and not strip like.

I have made this mistake before, lol. This is such terrible bacon, that at the end of the day, you're actually losing money compared to buying normal 5 dollar bacon.
Seriously, the fat melts off (even if you slow cook it) and you're left with MAYBE 100 grams of solid food.

It's really a toss up. Bacon has more monosaturated fats (good fats) than butter, less transfats (bad fat) than margarine; but the sodium nitrates will turn your arteries into clogged shit pipes.
