Non-resident iTrade TFSA

Hi all,

I'm a Canadian citizen but at the moment a non-resident. I haven't filed my Canadian taxes since leaving in 2013.

I was speaking to a friend about Canadian shares. I've never invested money in Canada so I don't really know how it's done. I do still have OSAP payments so I'm transferring money into my Scotiabank account every month.

I opened up a TFSA in 2010ish but I've never touched it. Now I'm at the stage where I have a bit of disposable income and I'm starting to explore investing in Canadian shares. I am thinking about converting my TFSA to an iTrade TFSA. Then I will make somewhat regular deposits into that account and invest in various shares.

Will I need to file my Canadian income tax if I am not withdrawing any money from the TFSA but am investing within it?

Also - if I am able to grow my TFSA balance, am I able to purchase real estate within the TFSA?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
