Oculus Quest 2 recall, and the new 128GB model to be released on August 24

Interesting article: https://www.cnet.com/tech/computing/fac ... -concerns/

And BestBuy (the only place where you could still find the 64GB model in Canada) immediately pulled all Oculus Quest 2 product pages. Amazon didn't have any for a few days now.

The new 128GB model will be a replacement (at the same price point, $299 US) of the 64GB model. It is supposed to become available on August 24, not clear if Canada is included.

I hope, as there are still some new 64GB units out there, this would mean a good clearance sale is coming.

Yeah we got the notice about the replacement covers they are shipping free of charge. Their cover and strap are uncomfortable anyway so we never used them, the Quest 2 out of the box is probably the least comfortable VR headset ever made. The Elite Strap is good but prone to breaking even with it's high price. That said, being wireless in VR is amazing. We use virtual desktop to stream all of our SteamVR games and never touch the Facebook stuff.

I use one of the breathable covers from VRCovers. Very happy with it, came with two - one to use, one to wash. I do a lot of light cardio in VR and it helps immensely with face sweat. The strap is this one from Amazon, it's OK so far but not great. I might get a different one later on but I just needed something better than the Quest 2 stock setup.

I bought the fit pack shortly after launch as I have a big head and a IPD around 71-72 which is wider then the widest setting of 68. I now use the wide facial interface and elite strap and comfort is good. Without the wide interface I needed to use the glasses spacer to make the image clear even though I don’t wear glasses, and there was a lot of pressure on my cheeks.

bestbuy.ca just updated their Oculus page with the following information:
The new Quest 2 128GB is coming August 24.
So the 128GB will be available in Canada on the same day as in US.

Still wondering what will happen to the remaining 64GB stock at best buy. Perhaps they will return them to Oculus. Either way, they will be likely sold with the fix (silicone cover) as a clearance sale, on either best buy or Oculus sites, with prices significantly cheaper than the standard $399 price.

I just placed a (free) order for the silicon cover. It actually had an option for the fit pack so they’re sending me 3 covers. Standard, wide and narrow. That’s good cause although I use the wide the rare time I let someone else use it I put the standard one back on.
