Office provided health insurance?

All,

I'm not sure about the long term & short term disability insurance provided by my office. So far I have not elected coverage. Thoughts?
Please thank me if you find this helpful

Need more details. Did you start a new job and don't have benefits? Have you not opted in because there are deductions?

Yes there are deductions every pay cycle.

I'm wondering if I should elect to enroll in LTD & STD?

LOL...without details of coverage and costs, it's like asking on RFD the question "should I get married?" as your only statement

Given you can get EI Sick benefits (in lieu of STD) and most LTD claims are rejected on first application (and then only last 1-2 years if you're lucky), if I had to do it again I would opt out and and put any premiums in my own savings account. If you are young and healthy, you may never need to use this type of benefit (which is what most insurance companies bank on anyway!).

It's insurance... you don't know if you will need it until you do. Though if you are more elderly, it becomes more worthwhile to consider. It could even happen when you're young...

My company forces me to have it but they pay the deduction
