Of course there's a reason to get this... It's FREEish!

Actually it's free for me because I'm using my Kellogg's $5 Prepaid GCs

Now what can I get with the $0.01 balance left over? ;)
In your case it is a no brainier. Cereal for flashlight :)

I ordered one. I haven't read all the posts to see if anyone complained about it using a single AAA which could mean either low light output, short battery life, or both.

Ordered one just to have on keys just in case.

Watched the review video, light output doesn't look too bright (30 lumens).

It clearly states it's 90 lumens.

Thanks OP, in for one! I have a small keychain OLight brand flashlight. I am very happy with the quality and performance of it. Can't wait for this.

Looks like it might be possible to get the black one for 4.99 as well if you've already got the brown one.

How are they making money on this?
Manufacturing is cheap and drop shipping is $2-3 in a small package.
They probably had an excess of left overs from manufacturing which cost them pennies. I was in buying/sourcing before and you would be surprised to see what the profit margins are when manufacturing in China. Shipping was more expensive than anything else.

$5 is not free, but it is at least 50% off, and yes olight is making money selling you these for $5.

I'd rather pay a bit more and get something with 3 modes and a neutral white LED. A pocket clip would be nice too.

Is it any better than the $2 flashlights from Aliexpress? This one claims to be 2000LM and also takes a AAA battery.

2000lm lol, even the headlamp I linked to says that and it's powered by an 18650, but the real output is closer to 400-500lm
