Rather than offer the typical games, crafts, rides and other festivities outside the Ontario legislature, free admission will be offered to the first 500 visitors on July 1 at 10 Ontario attractions. They are:

Ontario Science Centre.
Cinesphere at Ontario Place.
Royal Ontario Museum.
McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Vaughan.
Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington.
Fort William Historical Park in Thunder Bay.
Huronia Historical Parks in Midland and Penetanguishene.
Butterfly Conservatory — Niagara Parks Commission.
Science North in Sudbury.
St. Lawrence Parks Commission.

First 500? That's lame. Also aren't the museums always free on July 1st? At least that is the case with Ottawa museums.

I agree. In the article, they said that the celebration at Queens Park had low attendance and costed around $300,000 to $400,000 and offering the free admission to these attractions costed $80,000. So they definitely could have put in more funding for more visitors.

I don't think most things are typically free on Canada Day in the GTA.

First 500 visitors in the GTA? That'll take what, 5 minutes?

There were a lot of Canada150 freebies a couple Canada Days ago... but normally it's not free admission.

St. Lawrence Parks Commission comprises of many attractions. Would be great if these will all be free:
  • Kingston Penitentiary Tours
  • Upper Canada Village
  • Fort Henry
  • Skywood Eco Adventure
  • Upper Canada Golf Course
  • Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary

Ontario Science Centre has Community Day (aka free admission) every year traditionally in September. No limit on the number of free admissions, you just have to wait in long lines to get in and put up with huge crowds everywhere inside. Used to work there for many years, and that day was the stuff of nightmares.

@n0thing
of the two, RBG a better option if weather is nice. way more room to explore the grounds. ROM will be a nightmare. last time they did free admission there was a huge lineup all the way down Queen's Park past the old Planetarium

Only problem is if you travel far there only to find you're not amongst the first 500, what is there to do for rest of the day?
