Open box/Display Model Asus 17.3" Vivobook X705MA-BS91-CB for $320. Good deal?

Hi all,

I had been out of the loop for laptop for a decade. Found this open box, possibly display model laptop at Best Buy for $320. I bought it already but has 14 days to refund if needed. Is this a good deal?

Asus 17.3" Vivobook X705MA-BS91-CB
Powerful and efficient Intel Pentium Silver N5000 processor (1.1 GHz)
17.3” HD+ (1600 x 900) Display
8GB DDR4 RAM; 1TB HDD Storage

Thanks!

It is an ok deal, if you must have a 17 inch notebook then this is probably the cheapest you can get one for.
I workout to get big so I can pickup bricks and ****.

If you absolutely must have a 17" notebook, this is the cheapest. But if you don't care about size, this thing is a crappy deal.

This is a better deal:

And if your budget allows you to go above $300, this is even better

For a non-refurbished laptop (it was a customer return), it's a good deal. Would prefer to see it at $290, but won't quibble over $30. Agree with what was said below about 17" laptops. I have an HP 17" with a nice screen, but I'm finding it's bigger than I need for a laptop. My Dell refurbished laptop is 14", which is a tad small sometimes, so I tend to think 15" would be perfect.

Cheers,
Doug

I would say yes it is good deal for 17"

One thing to remember is that the battery is probably half dead if it was a demo and plugged in all the time

Hi all,

I have the option to "upgrade" my laptop to an open box/display model ASUS VivoBook 15.6" X512DA-BB31-CB for $20 more. So $340. Should I go for it? They say it has better specs. I did some quick search and the AMD R3-3200 is a faster CPU, but uses more power. And this one comes with the faster 256GB SSD drive, vs the 1TB regular drive. The screen is smaller, 15.6" vs 17.3".

• 2.5GHz (up to 3.4GHz) AMD R3-3200U dual-core processor and 8GB DDR4 RAM delivers the power you demand for all your computing needs

• 256GB solid state drive provides ample storage and offers fast boot up times

• AMD Radeon Vega 3 graphics card generate stunning visuals to bring your movies and games to life

• 15.6" HD anti-glare display with a native 1366 x 768 resolution for a crisp, bright picture whether you're watching movies or working on documents

• NanoEdge bezel provides an impressive 88% screen-to-body ratio for more screen real estate

• Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) for connecting wirelessly to your home network or to public hotspots

• Bluetooth 4.2 (Dual band) 2x2 for wirelessly connecting to accessories like a headset or mouse or to your devices like a smartphone

• 14.1" wide and 0.8" thin for a portable laptop you can slip in your bag

• 1x USB 3.1-Type C (Gen1); 2x USB 2.0; 1x USB 3.1 Type A (Gen1), and an HDMI port for connecting peripherals like a printer, speakers, external monitor, and more

• Integrated HD webcam makes is easy to stay visually connected to friends and family

• Ergonomic chiclet keyboard boasts an integrated fingerprint sensor for added security

• Fingerprint sensor for enhanced security

• Windows 10 (64bit) preinstalled, featuring a refined internet browser, improved Start menu, digital assistant with Cortana, universal Windows apps, and much more

The computer in the OP seems to fit the very description of a laptop that I specifically tell people not to buy:

1. Big screen but suspect quality. Interesting they don’t provide any real specs of the screen.
2. No SSD.
3. Slow CPU. This machine has about the same CPU performance of a very low budget desktop I got from Wal-Mart a decade ago. Literally, as in 2010.
4. Big and heavy. Not good for portability.
4. Battery life likely sucks judging by its size vs 3-cell battery.
