what's the best way to get money into the account right away to waive the fee?

Looking at the time machine (Google cache), BMO and Scotia were already doing $400 / $350 Welcome bonus back in 2010-2012.

This $400 in 2023 is sub-par.

If you have 2 or more other bank accounts you can do 2 or more Interac etransfers the day you open the TD account. It may be possible to raise your Interac etransfer $3K limit once by calling your other bank. Otherwise bring cash or a cheque.

Don't worry too much, you can call in or go to the branch and ask them to waive it. It is common practise they waive the first month while you settle in.

This is only a good deal if you combine with the TDDI bonus. Otherwise, BMO's deal with Frugal Flyer @ $475 where you only open one account and add a family member is better.

Edit: BMO also has a lower minimum balance to waive the annual fee

What improves this deal by combining it with the TDDI one? Thanks.

Isn't BMOs minimum balance also $4K?

Look at the fine print:

The monthly fee for the New Chequing Account cannot have been waived or rebated for any reason, other than maintaining the minimum monthly balance, receiving a seniors' rebate, or receiving the New to Canada 12-month fee waiver on the TD Unlimited Chequing Account, and the type of account cannot have changed, before the $300 is deposited to the New Chequing Account.

Seems like if you ask them to waive it.... you lose your $300?

BMO 4K, TD 5K

5K is the all inclusive. Maybe it's 4K for the unlimited chequing.

I opened my account at Scotia a few months back, I asked the FSR what if I get charged a fee while I settle things in. She said the system generally will not charge the first month since it is understandable people needs time to move money around. If there is a charge, she can waive it no problem. I have never seen a fee on the first month.

If "slow" banks like Scotia have something in place, I expect TD would have the same process in place. Do you know if the balance is average daily? If it is then as long as the average is over $5k then it's all good.

TD didn't offer this when I opened my Scotia account, and Scotia seems to fit my lifestyle. However, the overall banking experience on Scotia is quite sub-par for 2022-2023; even Tangerine is much better.

I might churn this since I already started the TDDI promo.

3 things make combining the 2 offers more convenient if you don't already have a TD chequing account:

1. You can open the unlimited chequing account, ePremium Savings account, Pay as you go Overdraft Protection and the TD Direct Investing account all in 1 appointment at the TD branch

2. You can fund the TDDI account with $3K and arrange the $100 monthly recurring deposit directly from the TD chequing account

3. After you get the $350 TDDI bonus in ~6 months you can close the TDDI account and have the TDDI funds deposited to your TD chequing account

You basically keep ~8K at TD for 6 months and get $750 out of it.

Great info and I will alert everyone in the TDDI promo thread about the added convenience... you explained by combining with this Chequing promo.

Why ePremium Savings and not TD Every Day Savings Account? Looking at this and it comes with 1 transaction a month.

Update: Like OP says, it's much easier to do it in person because you will get a card immediately. I took the chance and opened the Unlimited Chequing and Every Day Savings online with my WebBroker ID. However I had to call TD to find out why I couldn't access EasyWeb to fund my chequing account. The rep says I will need to wait for my Access Card to get access to EasyWeb. When I inquire about the fees, the rep says the account is not "active" until the card is activated. That means it will be a week or so before I can put money in.

On the other hand, I wish this could be more clear. The email confirmation says I can access EasyWeb or TD app, nothing about I have to wait for the card in the mail.

You are right, the Every Day savings account is better, I assumed that the ePremium would have a better savings rate but it actually pays 0% if you keep less than $10K in it..
