Thanks the info OP; anyone think deals at Calypso are a result of the numerous health and safety infractions they faced last year?

I'd pass for anyone with young children.

Actually, this is helpful because I just threw a flyer from Calypso into my recycling bin. I'll either use it, or post the code here.
Thanks

I take my kids (3 year old and a 5 year old) to Calypso every year even since they opened. Calypso is very safe for kids.

I was there the day of the chlorine incident and my shorts literally almost melted off and some people's clothes partially disintegrated. it was bad, like nostril-burning, mustard gas-level bad. some kids were really affected and I thought some might die I bet many will have a life-long impact from this event.

early on, calypso was like the wild west, or every man for himself, with drug-addled teens running the rides, gabbing away, smoking weed openly, not paying attention, putting people's lives at risk on a daily basis (one I saw was when a weed-smoking teen released a raft early and several little kids tripped and went careening down one of the big raft rides), but it has improved lately. even so, there is no way I would take a toddler there, especially on a weekend. too many rowdy teens, too many inattentive kids running the rides, too many morbidly obese guys drinking beer, etc. and the park is always packed, even on weekdays.

Exactly, that's why out of the million of visitors that have visited calypso ever since they opened, only a very small percentage of people actually get hurt.

if you were there when calypso mustard-gassed their patrons, you wouldn't be so positive.

and right up until the end, they totally denied it ever happened, accused customers of lying, and refused any media access. now, when the gov't investigation proved that it did happen and they were at fault, the company is contrite and apologetic, but that's just an act.

I still go there, mainly because all the investigations, fines, gov't closures, and lawsuits have made them clean up their act a bit, but I also know exactly who I am dealing with and act accordingly.

lol, it's not quite that bad, and the biggest problem is really the weed-smoking teens running the rides - the gov't fined calypso and shut them down for a while over that, and again, it was cleaned up for a while, but the insane corporate need to "cut labour costs" gives them a short memory and a lot of the rides are back to what they were - unattended injury machines.

I agree 100%. Every year that I go to Calypso, I have a great time with my family. It's safe and it's fun because I make sure to behave correctly.

Calypso water park pleads guilty to 2012 chlorine incidents
Since we're just going to pick and choose what to highlight:

"While these incidents were regrettable, thankfully no one was seriously hurt and no injuries were reported," Calypso lawyer Lawrence Greenspon said in a statement released Thursday.

"There have been no similar incidents in the last three years."

The statement also said Calypso has taken a number of measures to avoid any similar incidents.[/

I think the courts would disagree with you (http://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-new ... violations)

To each his/her own. I personally stay away from over crowded urine pools staffed by incompetent teens who "can't follow procedures". The ocean is where my kids play.

The problem with any entertainment center in Ottawa is- the people

People in Ottawa are very pretentious coming from small towns with narrow views - impeding any progress of tourism for Ottawa

Calypso is great and I say that more things need to happen in Ottawa...but after all, it was rated as the most boring city in Canada (google it)

Wow. Quite the generalization. Just what the world needs.

I find Ottawa awesome; I've lived in 6 Canadian cities and always return. If yoire bored in Ottawa maybe you're just boring?

And Mont Cascades as well as the water park in Saint Sauveur have operated without similar incidents.

I wonder how bad the lineups will be with these coupons.. bought some tickets but hopefully I'll get to do more than 3-4 slides throughout the day with the kids.

you missed this one, which isn't bs from the corporate lawyers:

Most of the victims were children, 13 of which were taken to hospital.

and again, I WAS THERE in the wave pool the day calypso mustard-gassed its clients, many of which were young children, and it was horrible - even more so that the company denied the incident ever happened, and attempted to keep both medical personnel and media away.

Wow it didn't take long for you to take offense and feel aimed at....

I lived in Ottawa for 2 years before moving out and compared to Vancouver, Toronto, and also Montreal- Ottawa was nice but felt it can't progress until the infrastructure is redesigned with open mindedness.

In any case, someone would have to be extremely narrow minded not to agree that the city can improve. Perhaps complacent people are the ones who can't see it?

:D
