Outdoor Research 50% off various items (+ additional 15% coupon)

Deal Link:
Savings:
50%
Retailer:
Outdoor Research
Deal expired as of Aug 15, however there are still some discounts as OR clears stock for the new season. Also, Altitude Sport + TheLastHunt still have sales.

===

Outdoor Research has 50% off various items and sales don't come very often for this brand. They have an amazing warranty as well.
Coupon PITCH for additional 15% (thanks Ihsonic for pointing this out)

Couple notable buys:

Interstellar Jacket $400 -> $200
https://www.outdoorresearch.com/ca/en/m ... 4190270009

Optimizer Jacket $500 -> $250
https://www.outdoorresearch.com/ca/en/m ... 4180890008

===

In case you missed a deal on the Canadian site, the Outdoor Research US site has much more available and in stock. PITCH coupon for additional 15% off works too.
You need to ship to the US, but depending how much you get the savings can add up to make it very worthwhile still.

Also consider checking out TheLastHunt and AltitudeSports for other deals, not as high but still pretty good, and based in Canada:
https://www.thelasthunt.com/collections ... r-research (coupon EOS19 for additional 10% off - expired)

Thank you! I've been watching OR for a sale on the Interstellar for a while.

Which jacket to choose?

Really tempted to try the Gore-tex active so I don't have to reapply DWR. It doesn't have pit zip though.

Edit: Went for Optimizer. Wish I went for Forey instead. PITCH is single use only per account.

Check out the Foray jacket it's got pit zips that go the full length of the jacket and it has great reviews.

I think all of the multilayer Goretex jackets including the Active have DWR. The Active ones just use a thinner construction to breath more.

Because Active covers several different types of construction, the jackets that don't have DWR are now "Gore-tex Active Shakedry". These are the single layer jackets with a permanent DWR. These are very thin fabrics meant for activities like running and biking because they rip easily

(edit: there are some 2L jackets with Shakedry, but they seem to be running or cycling jackets)

Noooo I didn't know about this beforehand... also jumped the gun and bought immediately instead of getting a referral link for further discounts :/

This review says it doesn't have DWR. Maybe they're wrong: https://www.outdoorgearlab.com/reviews/ ... -optimizer
I do noticed that the Shakedry ones seem to have the waterproof membrane as the outer fabric while this Optimizer has a regular face fabric.

Now I really wish I'd gotten the Foray instead. I tried that on in SAIL and it seemed pretty nice. I tried to call to cancel the order but they closed early today.

Edit: Received my Optimizer jacket. Turns out that it does have a DWR layer. The reviews about the sizing is all true. The sleeves go down to the knuckle of my thumbs and it's snug around my belly and hip; and roomy around my chest. The Foray in the same size (medium) fit great with room to layer.

The wrist valcro helps with the sleeve, but I guess I'll have to lose weight for the belly / hip.

Yeah, it does seem like it doesn't have any kind of DWR.....so you won't have to worry about reapplying it!

I can't stand the fact that the DWR on all these jackets just don't last. Reapplying it yourself doesn't work well, it doesn't last as long as the original DWR either.

I bought the North Face Hyperair Shakedry jacket, but it feels like a jacket that will rip very easily. Some makers that use this fabric too don't even recommend wearing any kind of backpack with it.

Can anyone comment on the sizing of Outdoor Research compared to brands like Uniqlo, Abercrombie, and Banana Republic for sizes in XS and S?
I usually get XS in these stores for things like T-shirts and layers going directly on top of T-shirts and XS or S for jackets and am wondering whether the smallest sizes they have (usually S and in Trim fit) will fit well.
Or can comment on pants sizes compared to brands like Levis, where i'm usually a 29x30?

I can't say much since it's been a long time since I've bought anything from OR, but I ordered a S Interstellar and it certainly is quite trim, I think similar to a Uniqlo S shell jacket. The pit + chest area is especially small, to the point where I could easily wear it with just a T-shirt underneath and it would be a little loose, but certainly not overly baggy, and I also get either XS or S in most places. So I feel you should be ok with anything labeled as trim fit, especially if it's something like a jacket where you may wear another layer beneath other than a T-shirt.

Anyone happen to buy the Optimizer jacket in Burnt Orange and wouldn't mind posting some pics in normal lighting conditions?

I'm curious whether it looks like the one on Amazon with the seemingly much brighter orange and subtle shine + checkered pattern:
https://www.amazon.com/Outdoor-Research ... SLXJ8?th=1
or the much darker and matte and no subtle checkered pattern on OR's website:
https://www.outdoorresearch.com/us/en/s ... 4180551009

It seems the pics on OR's site tend to differ from real life due to perhaps taking the pics with super bright white lighting as my Cobalt Interstellar looks much darker than the one shown on OR.

My grey optimizer does have the pattern.
