Outside Cameras

Hi,

Long story short, someone is stealing flowers out of my in-laws' front yard. They pull them out with roots and everything which upsets my wife to no end since she puts in quite a bit of time to make it look good.

Can someone please recommend cameras that provide decent visibility at night? Would probably start with just one but would be nice if I could add another one later.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry to hear that.

Let me ask you a question. What to do with those camera clips? Want to see who it is? Report to police?

Most cameras don't have very good images when taken at night. You will need motion sensing lights to help with the camera images.

Maybe put a prominently visible sign, this premises is under video surveillance, and see if that has any effect. Your aim should be to put something as a deterrent. With a security cam, even if you catch someone on video you can hardly do anything unless you are able to identify that person.

I'd just get a Wyze Cam v3 for $45 (available at Home Depot, Amazon, etc.). They're super easy to set up and you can have it record to a local microSD card so no need for monthly fees. If possible, point it at the area you want watched through a window so it's close and secure.

If you really want to save money I'm sure you can find a cheap v2 as many people upgraded to the v3 due to the superior night vision.

Wyze Cam V3 has great night vision even in almost pitch black conditions. I have one pointed from inside to my backyard to see the critters getting at our garden boxes.

Hikvision cameras are very good. I have 3x Hikvision 4K cameras on my home and night vision is decent. The Hikvision Colourvu is also good however you need to have light in that area for it to work, if its dark then it wont work properly.

There is a Thread here with more info on where to get these cameras as a good price - hikvision-security-camera-equipment-2187725/

That's messed up. People can't even buy their own flowers nowadays?

I have a ring system set up in my house. It's quite good. They frequently go on sale.

Roots and all, that would be frustrating as can be. Camera's are the way to go, should be able to make out who is the culprit.

Could be some wildlife? Neighbor would steal once but not repeatedly.

Just saying.

Even with video clip, you are limited in what actions can be taken for such a petty crime. Your best bet is catch the person in the act so a camera with live notification.

This reminds me of the Cactus plant theft in Markham.

Like most things in life, you pay for what you get with cameras. I wouldn't trade my Dahua Starlight cameras for anything. They have amazing low light vision due to the giant sensors you won't find on any 45$ camera.
