Paper straws for Slurpees at 7-Eleven

I had a Slurpee today and I grabbed a straw like normal and I honestly thought I just picked a broken one. They switched the old plastic straws with a little spoon on the end to these paper straws. They are so bad, first It seemed like it was blocked but they are all the same and not even a 1/4 of the way through the straw started to come apart and almost disintegrated

Does anyone know when this happened? I had a Slurpee a few months ago and it was normal. I'm all for reducing plastic use but they need to come up with a better alternative.

Go into Starbucks and grab some of the long green ones used for Frappuccinos... before they stupidly switch to paper....

You must be fun at parties.

Hell I bought a slushie machine. Granted it's for bellinis, but still... It's still peach slush.

Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.

I tried some awesome biodegradable straws at a burger place in NYC last time I was there. You would not have been able to tell the difference between that and a normal plastic straw; I don't know why restaurants haven't jumped on those if they want to be environmentally conscious.

I'm surprised they haven't switched already. I mean paper straws work okay for soft drinks like coke but I think the Slurpee is too thick so it just gets clogged up.

Someone gave me a paper straw for a milkshake.
It was horrible.

Okay, with that said, 7 11 most likely felt that there was no sense in only purchasing paper straws for one section of Canada.
A bulk Canada wide purchase for all the stores just makes sense. Most likely saves 7 11 a lot of money.
(vs a smaller purchase at a higher cost)

Like actually aggressivelt freaked out to the point of the thread being locked
Lamb is my favorite meat. Rabbit? Yeah that's gross. You can't be eating Bugs Bunny.

i too am stock piling on plastic straws, but there wont be a point soon theyre gonna ban them all over canada within a year the only place left to get them after the ban is intact is going to be amazon or e-bay, possibly at a markup too

I was just at the College & Spadina location.
Looks like (for now?) 7 11 Toronto locations still have plastic straws for both the gulp & slurpees.
They are "sold out" of edible straws though. "We getting more soon" said the person running the cash...

Sealed packages of plastic straws (as in, new, not used, lol) can be bought @ Value Village for $1.49 plus tax.
I doubt anyone will police the sale of straws there. lol

Depends on how the ban goes.
From what I remember some retailers can charge for plastic straws so they'll probably be available for sale at a place like wholesale club.
But you'd probably have to buy like 1000 or 10000 of them.
