Currently, this promo is YMMV @Loblaws stores PCmobile kiosks(cabins).
Saw it displayed at Maxis LaSalle and the price scanned for $150 by a cashier.
Didn't check its stock as was in a hurry to finish my errands due to current "heatwave".

I really hope they have more storage options for these phones. 16GB is just too small for even a casual user.

That'd be nice, might be a strategic move to not cannibalize their G line. 16GB with micro SD is fine for the low-end though, seems like not too long ago 8GB / 1GB was the norm.

Brings back memories of the E4 deal from last year.

You can add an SD card if you need more storage.

I install a FTP server on all my phones, and move all the cruft to my computer, so even 16 gigs is big enough.

At Walmart, the LG K4 has been $130 for like a year now and selling really well and it only has 8GB/1GB. This is way better for the same price.

The Samsung J1is $150 and has basically same specs as K4 and the Samsung J3 is selling for $199 has same specs as Moto e5

Yes....thank you. The one I was looking at is 64.99 USD at best buy in the USA. Cheaper, only if I can find a cheap unlock.

"8MP/5MP camera

Public Mobile specific?

According to GSMarena:
13/5MP
5.7"
NON-removable Battery...

You got the wrong phone specs from GSM Arena. Probably an E5, and not an E5 Play.
This is a good $130 phone. Battery is removable, Works with every carrier in Canada, even does band 66 for the Freedom Mobile crowd! Camera and display underwhelms, but is good enough. Phone should be unlocked, but if not, you can get Bell to unlock it for free.

I picked this up in Orleans' Superstore yesterday. It scanned at $150 with $20 discount. It comes with Android 8.0 - April security update. Great value entry level phone. That said, I won't be surprised if Moto doesn't provide updates. Hopefully someone ports Android 9 over successfully.

Is this worse or better than my Moto G4 play?

It's like a slightly better E4 with a little larger display and more LTE bands support (including freedom's 66) and supports aggregate bands.

I still rather save money and get the E4 for ~$40usd from Amazon.com from last deal though.
I wish I got one more for another relative...

Doesn't "prepaid" mean that the phone is locked to certain carrier ?

A prepaid phone can be sold under an individual carrier's branding, on the phone, packaging and apps. However, there is no contract on the phone, so by law, the prepaid phone has to be sold unlocked or be able to be unlocked by the carrier for free. Most new prepaid phones are now unlocked.

Is this documented by the CRTC anywhere? Did not know this, but if true, then no more searching EB for unlock codes (however cheap they may be).

Any new phone "owned/out of contract" must be unlocked for free. I don't know if this is retroactive.
