PDI vs PDE

My sister bought a car on the weekend and it was higher than she expected but still signed thinking these were legit fees.

On the manufacturer’s website it says Freight and PDI are $1895. She was charged $1795 for freight and on separate line $1000 for PDE. $900 higher than expected. Is this legit or just a way to add on to the price?

She also paid $500 for some theft protection (etching?) called Invisitrak. Said she tried to get it removed but salesperson said it was mandatory. Anyone encounter this?

She was pricing the vehicle on the manufacturers website and then went directly into the dealer. I don’t think OMVIC pricing rules apply because she didn’t see an actual ad.

The car won’t be delivered for 3 months. Any recourse or suggestions how to proceed?

PDI (inspection) = PDE (expense). just different name calling.

Looks like that dealer double dipped. she has to complain to dealer .. show the dealer what the manuf. has indicated.

i mean she signed already..only out is if dealer didn't explicitly include in contract that car will be delivered beyond the standard 90 day in P&S agreements, she could try to get them to refund deposit after they fail to deliver it by 90 days (if this is the case)

Yes, quite a few dealer groups do.

The supply issues with cars are going to be much worse this year compared to last. She can likely cancel the deal and go get her deposit back and try another dealer, but will be hard pressed to find places that don't charge dealer fees, or ask you to buy accessories as time goes on this year.

Yeah, they force that on my cousin to let him buy his Venza along with doc fee.

But they are the only one with the color he wants and it's not like the other 2 dealers are playing ball anyway.

It's at least a hybrid and not as popular as RAV4 due to not as good value proposition. But beggar can't be chooser in this market and he needed a car quick.

She signed already. Need to ask those before signing. What kind of car is it? May be it's a blessing in disguise if she actually can take delivery.
