Which tags need to be kept attached to the collar?

Currently I have the name tag with phone number only attached to the collar of my dog.

We were given tags for the pet license (from the city), rabies (from the vet) and insurance.

Do any of these other ones need to be attached to the collar as well?

I've only just kept the dog's name tag with phone number on her collar. All my dogs have been small, so too many tags is too heavy.

I know for large dogs, people keep the rabies tag on as well. This is in case your dog bites someone and breaks the skin. If there's no proof of rabies shot, dog might be put down to be tested for rabies.

You should also get your dog microchipped, in case your dog loses the collar for some reason.

I agree with kittypink re the microchipping and having the dog's name tag with phone number. And if you talk to the City of Toronto they will tell you that you are supposed to have the dog licence attached as well. Our dog weighed 25 lbs. but he wore harnesses not collars so that helped.

Dog is microchipped already should have put that in the original post. Dog is 37 lbs so not an issue of the extra weight from the tags. With multiple tags how to do you keep them from banging against each other?
