Petro Can Mobile question
I am buying a used Iphone6 that is locked to Rogers. Will I need to unlock it to use Petro Can Mobile, or any of the other providers under Rogers? Thanks!

Not really. Fido was previously owned by Microcell and they had their own operator license.titaniumtux wrote: ↑ I've also heard that's a thing. Rogers carrier locking is mysterious among the Apples...

This is true, but Rogers bought Fido a long time ago.

Yes, and Rogers kept it as a separate entity.titaniumtux wrote: ↑ This is true, but Rogers bought Fido a long time ago.

I also saw that in many cities there are Fido phone number prefixes. I'm surprised Rogers still hasn't pooled it.

We have Fido to thank for bringing GSM to Canada. If they were able to hold out against the Big 3, they would be the dominant player in the cell market today. Both Rogers and Bellus was TDMA and CDMA respectively.titaniumtux wrote: ↑ I also saw that in many cities there are Fido phone number prefixes. I'm surprised Rogers still hasn't pooled it.

True that. It'd be a no brainer as a majority of subscribers prefer sim card phones (as opposed to CDMA phones). Since 3G it's been a non-issue, but had it not been for Fido, perhaps Bellus might have evolved their LTE off CDMA (like Sprint and Verizon in the states).
