Petro-Canada Car Wash Damaged My Car & They Refuse To Pay (Video of Incident)

I'm posting this to warn everyone about Petro-Canada and how they respond, should your vehicle be damaged in one of their car washes.

This month, I used the Petro-Canada Car wash at 474 Bayly Street West, Ajax (Bayly & Westney Rd. S). Garden hose with a metal handle was wrapped up in the brushes and struck my vehicle, causing dents from front to back. The vehicle in front of me was also damaged (dents and broke their light).

Petro Canada has told me to file a claim with my insurance
Head office is not returning my calls

Considering a large company like this has insurance on their property for incidents such as these, I am surprised and disappointed that they are acting this way.
I wouldn't go to THIS Petro Canada car wash, ANY Petro-Canada car wash and quite frankly, I'm done with this company. Please think twice about using their facilities because obviously they don't care about the customer and will not help you.

Update: My car was written off in incident that occurred in this video. There was simply too much damage over the entire left side of the vehicle (front to back) that would require repair and the car was simply not worth the costs of those repairs. I was forced to make a claim with my own insurance company, as Petro Canada would not provide theirs. I've never received any compensation from Petro Canada, not even a complimentary car wash.

Yikes, that was painful to watch.

How can they not take responsibility? Seems pretty ridiculous.

And listen to! OP kept a lot cooler than I would have in a situation like that.

I'd definitely try reaching out on social media like l69norm suggested. They probably have the means to escalate this to someone at HQ who will hopefully be able to help beyond just going through insurance.

I read the title … and half expected to see a car with an antenna or piece of trim torn off

Which of course is the risk you take going thru a car wash … they even post signs about these sorts of things and they are not liable

BUT … holy cow this ain’t none of that !

This truly looks like some brain dead employee wrapped a hose around one of those wash mops on purpose !

Either they were cleaning up at the end of a shift cluelessly …

Or this was intentional vandalism against this PetroCanada station by a disgruntled employee or someone else

It certainly would be the last thing you’d be looking for driving into the car wash … or even thinking about

It must have freaked you right out when you realized what was happening !

Time to get serous … complain to the Station owner (prob a franchise)
Complain to PC HQ

And if all else fails … ya post this video on social media … or hire a lawyer

PS … another reason my 3 picks for a clean car are :

Have you spoken to your insurance company as to what could be done?

Either way, I hope they would at least own up to their mistake.

P.S. I should really buy a dashcam.

What the actual...

I was thinking "garden hose wrapped up in the brushes" - I guess maybe someone left trash in the bay and it got caught up - but that's been tied there. There's no way that hose got there by accident.

Holy! That's a nothing really you can do situation. Sucks! Petro should own up and fix your car plus give you 1 year of free gas.

WOULD SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!

That's awful.

I really don't know much about how the insurance industry works, but if you contact your insurance company, won't they pay you for the repairs, and then go after the business owner / their insurance to cover their costs?

Unless you get others that also got their car damaged, doubt you'll get anything done as an individual against such a large company. Just get your insurance to go after them. They will be able to get Petro to further look into this matter more than you could ever do in a 100 years.

Have you talked to your insurance about this?
You don't have to file a claim, you can ask and mention the video and photographic evidence you have and that Petro is stonewalling you.
See what they say, they might say they will fix it without raising your premiums and that they will go after Petro.

That's awful to watch, imagine you are in the car and cannot back out or leave but watching the damn hose hitting the car continuously.
The staff in the gas station has no idea how to deal with it.

Like they said, you better off just to claim your insurance and have your insurance company go after them.
Your insurance will pay to repair your car first and it is your insurance company that will demand Petro Canada to pay them back.

There's actually two hoses that are coiled around that brush. A green rubber one and an inflatable grey one.

Even more reason to always use touchless only. Not only do the brushes mar/scratch paint, someone with a pickup truck (contractor) may forget they have stuff in the back that can get picked up.

Years ago a buddy took his winter beater thru a wash, not realizing its a touch wash until too late... well, parts of his rusty shitbox car got embedded into the brushes and likely f***ed the car behind him.

Hope it gets sorted, eventually! *fingers crossed*

I'd it taken out my wiper and my license plate. This is a whole new next level of damage.
