[Petro Canada] Free Fast EV Charging Patricia Bay (Victoria BC)

Tried to pay with app, couldn't connect. Plugged the car in and just started charging.

YMMV, there may be guy charging his Silverado there , but they usually charge pretty fast Face With Tears Of Joy.

Hopefully it’s not charged to whoever was there before you.

Hey this is near my house. Too bad my Volt only takes J1772
I'd be more apathetic if I weren't so lethargic

There’s lots of free chargers around Vancouver as well, just need to look for them or search online

If you use ChargeHub you can find free chargers everywhere. Even small ass rural Ontario towns have it.

Im more surprised that the charger is actually working. The 2 petro chargers in my area have been so unreliable it seems like they are down more than actually working.

I wonder if it's busted.

Sometimes Petro Canada chargers in Vancouver don't bill you either.
Do you not have anything else to do rather than argue with strangers on the internet
Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.

I go there when I'm in the area for a free charge. I get free charging under RBC until the end of April. I would love it if they built one heading up island towards Duncan.

I don't have an EV but am curious about the charge speed. Like when I go to fill up gas, it will take maybe like 5mins to fill it up to the top.

How much charge can 5 mins get at one of these stations? Do you gotta plan around charging?

apparantly they max out at 100kwh it varies by car/state of charge/how warm the battery is and many other factors but around 4km-30km of driving per minute charging on them. So 5 minutes could be 20km to 150km of driving.

As for the second question depends on your vehicle and it’s range and how far you are going to drive for the day. If you are expecting to drive 700km straight for example you would need a plan to charge yes. Varies by car of course.

So like if I'm at around 1/4 charge left, I would need to plan to have the car sit at the charger for at least 20 mins to get it near full? I guess that means, you gotta plan to do some errands in the vicinity or just sit in the car right?

I'm thinking a plug-in hybrid might be more of my speed. If I'm travelling between cities, I can use gas to finish off the trip and not need to wait at a charging station.

This is a good and interesting development that we're slowly inching forward towards an electrified future. I also read an article recently that said the writer is appreciative that Tesla is building a new dealership on the island, but they have zero superchargers beyond the south island, which defeats the purpose of the Tesla being environmentally friendly for those who want to take their environmentally friendly EV for a wilderness road trip up island. >_>

I seem to recall recently from a Petro-Canada promo email that if you have an RBC card, Petro-Canada does offer free charging for a limited time as a promo to promote their new business of EV charging in addition to its gasoline and diesel business. Smart move, imho.

With such infrastructure starting to pop up, it's going to help nudge the market more into the EV direction, which will reduce the need to burn fossil fuels. Don't own an EV myself, yet, but I'm keeping my eye out on the market. Test drove the Volt once and it was quite the experience when you get that instantaneous jolt by flooring the accelerator pedal without the need to wait for the engine and tranny to rev up. Other than that, it's really like driving a regular vehicle.

Why settle for full retail price when you can wait and get it at a lower price for better value (even better if there's a bundled freebies deal)? 😉

Well then the only logical thing to do is buy an EV to take advantage of this deal lol.
