Picking up food, tip option on machine

How many of you put 0 tip when you get that automatic message of preset tip percentages when paying for takeout? So annoying, kinda makes you feel guilty.

It’s a simple press of a button “no tip / 0”. The clerk would not care if you give 0 or $1000 Grinning Face With Smiling Eyes

I use to frequent a local hamburger joint that made amazing food. I stopped because they started a new routine. The debit machine would ask if you wanted to tip and if you did the cashier would yell "TIPPER" and the entire staff would yell "THANK YOU". It was so pedantic and got OLD QUICK. So there you are at the debit terminal and if you tip you get the most underwhelming 'THANK YOU' shouted at you and if you didn't well then the whole restaurant knew it... Turned a great restaurant into a chore so I quit going.

The whole tipping system needs to be replaced with decent wages.

I agree with the wage needing to be changed to a living wage.

Figured it was time for a change. Someone posted a Chief Wiggum quote and it felt right. :)

Only takeout where I tip is my local sushi restaurant. I only do so because of the effort put in and the quality of the food. It's always garnished and decorated nicely (once they gold leafed a few). Anywhere else though, nope, never do I tip for takeout.

And if you ever tip, tip in cash. The owner, manager, and even the CRA, need not get any of it.

Any friends of mine who have ever worked in a restaurant, told me they don't expect to get tipped on takeout. Its a nice bonus if they do, but they don't expect it. You guys know how places like Starbucks sometimes get tipped, a friend of mine who worked at a Starbucks said there's very minimal level of tipping actually, most customers don't tip them, & she was fine with that. She said most days she'd be lucky if she got $5 in tips, it wasn't gonna make or break anything for the staff.

During Covid I have tipped on takeout. Our restaurants are way less busy and are hurting. I want to support them. After Covid when I can go to the restaurants again I’ll probably stop tipping take out.

Ewww, that is totally cringe inducing. I would avoid such a place like the plague. Really inappropriate IMO.

I'd want to walk out even if I was a tipper. Then again I've always hated it when you go somewhere on your birthday and they bring out a free cake or dessert and then all the staff circle around and rush through the world's fastest birthday song while everyone else in the restaurant stares because they're not getting any service. I'd rather not get the free dessert. I'm not big into restaurants being an interactive experience.

I always put ZERO DOLLARS for ALL my pickup orders.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO TIP.

I hardly get take out - when I do, I don't tip for pickup - that' s just ridiculous (except the odd time I got take out during the first lockdown). I recently bought $6 ice cream cone with a tip option....wtf? really? Especially with such a mediocre reception. I can buy a whole tub for that amount and you want me to tip on top of that? This place is crazy busy too so I imagine they get a lot of money.

$0 when picking up food. Why should I?
All they do is pack the food and bring it to the counter.

I have no issue to tip when dining in or when ordering delivery, but I have not getting any additional service by pick up the food at their restaurant,

Not ALL Restaurant are hurting, the big beautiful dine in restaurant are hurting of course because of their big overhead cost, a lot of small restaurants are making so much more $ than before. The few small one I went to and those food court one, their pick up orders are piling like mountains, So much take out orders and they are extremely busy during lock down.

^ that’s so true. The food court ones are actually even more busier during pandemic and mind you, most have also raised their prices too at the same time, citing higher food costs 🤨

No tip if picking up. I appreciate it when some restaurants press the no tip option for you on the machine when you're paying
