Kitchener-Waterloo, …
Just came here to post this, since this was just in time for the ending of the Detour coffee deal, but you beat me to it.

Upvoted for coffee, so many great options lately.

Didn't Black Rifle have a sale recently? If so, I missed it.

dang, was hoping could pre-pay for subscription at this discount... Neither Pilot nor Detour allowed it.

Hard time going back to Kicking Horse after these guys...

Only ordered two bags last time they had a sale and regretted it after my first cup! Got seven bags this time! Thanks!

Just tested with Honey. The code CCSURVEY10 worked for me ($10 off) but I'm not sure if there's a minimum order.

Their standard blends are pretty safe "coffee-flavour" that you would get at any nice café in the city.

Their single origins are where they stand out, and you can't really compare to other brands because each bag has a unique flavour profile. Some of my favourites of all time are from pilot, but I've had some misses as well.

Other third-wave roasters like Monogram, Detour, 49th Parallel, etc. Every city has a couple-few usually, should be similar quality. These all tend to be about $17-22+ for a 300-340g bag.

For taste, all these places tend to go with a lighter-medium roast unless specified, so it would taste different than heavily roasted (black/oily-looking) beans that most supermarket coffees have. You get more flavour notes of the bean, as opposed to kind of that one-note burnt/bitterness of cheaper coffees. The acidity of lighter-roasts is something people might not like right away, and some might not pair with dairy very nicely. I'd probably try a blend and a single origin roast to see if you're a fan.

Kicking horse is grocery store coffee (nothing's wrong with that) at premium prices (don't play yourself).

Based on what's available right now, I'd probably recommend...

"I want coffee" - Heritage or Monument blend
"I want to try something a bit more adventurous" - Ana Sora single origin (I've ordered this every time it becomes available again)

To really get the most out of the flavour profile, you've really got to follow the brew guides on the site, especially for the single origins. IMO, if you're not going to take the time to follow the ratios, I wouldn't spend the money on this coffee, even if it is 20% off.

I really wish Pilot would offer 1kg packages like Detour. Other than that they're awesome.

Just ordered 1kg from detour today. But I think I like pilot more actually. Wanted to try the Ethiopian espresso
