Pixel 4XL or Pixel 4a 5g

Hey guys, just wondering what's a better phone in your opinion?
My Pixel 3a XL has a minor screen issue so looking between these two phones (or the Pixel 6). Not looking at the 4a or 4 because I prefer a larger screen size.
Thanks!

I have used both. I personally would go with 4a5g. No fingerprint reader on 4xl and battery life is meh compare to 4a5g.

Thanks! I like 4xl design but ya the 4a5g is newer and has better battery life + 5g ÷ fingerprint reader

Consider a Pixel 5a if you are in that price range anyways.

Google doesn't sell it here but I bought one from the US Google Store and used a forwarder to bring it across the border.

Did you pay the $449 that's listed there now and do you recommend a forwarder?

Yes, I used Shippsy to bring it across and picked up in Markham.

Was before the border reopening though, these days I'd just ship to a warehouse and pick up myself in the US.

Also the 4XL is end of life for updates in October of this year, whereas the 4a is November next year. 5a is August 2024.

OP probably has got their replacement phone at this point but for the few months I had the 4a 5G, battery life was decent. From everything I've read, the 4XL while decently performing has a fairly weak battery. Also no fingerprint reader on rear of the 4, while 4a 5G does have one. And if you care about having a headphone jack, the 4a 5G has one. If you can manage to get the 5a though from the US (annoying that it isn't available in Canada) at a good price, it's basically the same as the 4a 5G with a gigantic battery and kind of better build.

If you don't care about performance get the 4a

If you do get the 4xl

The 4a is newer, but is a big step down with the SOC... It was basically a budget replacement

I ended up with the 4XL. I don't need the battery life since I'm mostly at home (work from home so I have access to charging). The 4a 5G was tempting due to its battery life but I prioritized the screen and face scanner.

Do you mind if I ask where bought your 4XL phone?
I'm thinking of getting 1.

Thanks.

For sure, yeah I got mine from Kijiji... With the phone being a few years old laready, I didn't feel like there was any risk of blacklisting so went this route.

If I was going with anything newer, I would purchase through the RFD community.
