Places to see butterfly/bird migration, salmon run....

We live in Markham Ontario (Warden and Highway 7 area). Looking for advice/tips/ideas to see monarch butterfly/bird migration, salmon run or other nature/wildlife stuff to see/do.

If possible, we would prefer it if it's not too far from where we live. If not possible, a day trip or an overnight trip is good too.

Thanks in advance.

Eastern Ontario
Not able to get there now ...

But for future reference:

Salmon River, Pulaski NY
(Between Watertown & Syracuse)

Salmon River NY = https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salmon_River_(New_York)

There is year round activity on the River
Steelhead spawn in the Spring ... Pacific Salmon in the Fall
And the Hatchery is open from Early Spring to Late Fall
https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/21663.html

Not far upstream is a nice nature area, and the Salmon River Falls

Of course there’s also decent shopping in Watertown (Salmon Run Mall area) and the MegaMall in Syracuse (Destiny USA)
Waterloo outlets to the west, and the Eastview Mall in Victor (both off of I-90 south of Rochester)

Whole Region offers up a great opportunity for things to see & do ... perfect for a short getaway from Eastern / Central Ontario

Salmon try to swim up the falls in the Napanee River when spawning. You'll have to Google it to try to find the best time to see them. There's tons of them though. If you go there at the right time, you'll see lots of huge ones
