Planning Trip To Turks & Caicos - Need advice

Hi everyone,
first time going toPlanning to Turks & Caicos with my wife kids(well 22 and 18 :-)
I see people recommending not going to all inclusive and rent a car and explore the island.
Is it safe? driving and going to different beaches and restaurant?
Also looking at The Sands At Grace Bay....

Thanks

Safety is a relative concept. Inside a resort is safer than outside. But outside at T+C is considered a pretty safe tourist destination. Standard precautions apply. It's a beautiful place. I've been there 4 times on cruises. I've never really seen outside the cruise port, though. Twice I went scuba diving and twice took a boat to Gibbs Cay for the day. It's almost a private island. Tour boats drop by for a half hour or so before moving on. Most the day it was just my family and the boat driver, we had the whole place to ourselves.

It’s a pretty safe destination (safer than many more popular choices in the Caribbean)
This has a lot to do with its good government & a relatively stable economy
(Although a great deal of it depends on Tourism … so Covid has been tough on them )

Personally, I have no qualms about travelling to T&C
Esp if staying on a resort … or travelling around during daylight
Just use your street smarts

And ya it’s a BEAUTIFUL Destination
Sooooo wish it was part of Canada now …
Something we most definitely lost out on back in the day
*sign*
Canada NEEDS a Caribbean Island for our snowbirds to visit & live in
A place where we can enjoy Cdn Healthcare & Cdn Dollars

NOTE = As with every trip abroad, I suggest you read the Dept of Global Affairs Travel Advisories for the most up to date info
Take note of the important info on crime. Esp the up tick in break ins / home invasions at villas. That reason right there would have me stick to resorts
https://travel.gc.ca/destinations/turks ... os-islands

EDIT / ADD … oh ya amazing scuba & snorkelling. You most definitely want to put that on your itinerary

Thank you! Lots of great information..,
To be honest we want to go but getting nervous about their entry requirements…
Getting everything on time before flight seems to add more stress
We’re looking for July trip so hopefully they drop some of their requirements .
Any hotel recommendations ?
Where should I rent a car from? At the airport or intone?

Just got back from TCI last week. Have been 15+ times. Renting a car and seeing the island is great advice. We’ve always rented an Airbnb and a car and have never stayed at a resort, but there are some good options if that’s your thing. We rent at the airport, but we keep the car for our entire stay. If you only want it for part of your stay, most companies will deliver to your accommodation.

Entry requirements are no big deal, but they may be updated soon - the current rules run until the end of this month.

Thanks for the tip. Can you share your experience with Airbnb? Location?name of the place?
Getting separate ticket and Airbnb usually comes up higher than "package"...
