Playing .mkv files on Amazon Firestick 4K

Is anyone playing .mkv files with VLC on their Firestick? Could you get 5.1 sound working? The Amazon videos can do 5.1, so I know my audio system settings are correct. If you experience using other players for .mkv files, let me know. thx

Update: just installed Archos Player. It can play .mkv with 5.1 sound.

I have no problem playing AC3 5.1 on a Firestick 4K using Plex or Kodi.

can this stick plays x265 10bits files?
any help? can u also load up files from usb drive ?

Never even occured to me to look for VLC, I use kodi on the firestick

It does 5.1 no problem.

I haven't used Kodi in a long time. Can it play a video over an SMB file share?

I read it can't play x265 hevc without studdering. The stick has one USB port and it's for power. I don't know how you would access a usb drive.

Yup. I hadn't used Kodi since it was call XBMC and I used it on the original XBOX. Still seems to work pretty much the same way. Has no problem accessing my network shares.
