I already have a lifetime Plex Pass so I can't try it myself, but it's worth trying the method from this previous thread to see if you can bring the price lower:

Selected country (TUR) does not match Credit Card country (CAN)
Please correct and try again

Was indecisive the first time around, a friend even insisted to buy it for me but I had declined.

Curses!

Did you follow the steps on the first page correctly? Because you're getting the exact error message that pops up if you don't:
Directly subscribe without the steps above will get an error:

That's from the post. Did you do the trial account thing first? Plex had 3 weeks to fix this now too.

Good point, I had done so a month ago during the initial deal so had to use a spare account to try again. No go, this time I received the following:
"There was an error creating the subscription: Selected country does not match Credit Card country"

I have Kodi and Jellyfin set up and working well. Thought I'd use the free month to evaluate Plex, ended up missing the big discount last time.

The major difference that I can see between these services is how Plex handles music. It is a very polished experience and allows me for the first time to listen to my collection seamlessly on a variety of devices and simply sync them for offline playback. I'm still on the fence as to whether that's worth $120 or even $70 tbh.

My guess is that I will buy Plex in the end, but time will tell.

The turkey trick doesn't work, didn't work for me the last time anyway. If someone could get it work the price will be around 40ish in CAD, I guess the TRY really depreciated a lot these days.

What benefits does this offer over what you get with an Nvidia shield? From what I understood you get the transcoding with the shield, which seems like the main draw to get the pass?

My main use case is video streaming from a NAS to TV/Projector. Occasionally I'll stream to my phone.

The turkish loophole was patched during the last deal period. It was gone after a day I believe.

Already got lifetime so can't test it out.
Already tried. Didn’t work. There is no option to “upgrade to a free trial” after canceling the subscription by the way, only “upgrade to monthly/annual/lifetime”.

No. Even just offhand, I can remember multiple promotions for a $75USD lifetime subscription.
