I've been waiting around for the PlexPass to drop to the ATL of $80 USD, but that doesn't look like it'll happen. This is the next best thing. $120 CAD for lifetime PlexPass. Good for people who have a current Plex server and want to take advantage of some of the extra features. My favorite useful feature is the ability to download an offline copy of media to your device to watch offline, so you don't always have to be connected to the server via internet.

Not a bad deal for a non targeted offer. If you can wait for it, the best deal is the targeted $75 USD offer that is sent from time to time.

Plex's business model was built mostly on organizing pirated media on home media servers.. Now they are working with big media companies to offer legit steaming. It shall be interesting to see if their new business model adds value to their service or whether the conflict of interest ends up driving business away as users wonder if details of their pirate p0rn collection are being shared with the MPA et al.

Do you need Premium to be able to share your server with friends on their own accounts?

Yes. Without premium you can only share with the same account. Also, no downloading.

Edit: I stand corrected!

Agreed! It'll definitely be interesting to see where this goes; I'll be keeping an eye on Emby as an alternative should anything happen.

Not true. You can share your medias without plex pass for your users with their own free account.

You can share your plex server with others without PlexPass. You do lack downloading content and being able to filter content based on ratings. Eg. with premium, you could create account that limits content for kids based on rating. You also don't get the bleeding edge releases.

You don't need a plex pass for this.

Beware!

It's "lifetime", but if they upgrade the player apps and stop supporting your back end devices, your set-up stops working completely, even though it worked 100% fine the day before.

Their apps have almost no legacy support, so unless you want to keep upgrading your back end to the new supported hardware, their "lifetime" is BS.

Found the manager that still runs his company on Windows XP.

Ahh that's probably what I remembered wrong. So free users are fine, just not content restrictions.

What hardware have they stopped supporting? And doesn't this apply to every product really?

You can download on mobile even without Plex Pass (you do need to have purchased the unlimited playback option once though for like $5)

Yeah it doesn't work with just the in-app purchase

If you don’t have a Plexpass, the one time fee allows you to use their mobile apps to view content while connected to a Plex server.

You need a Plexpass to use the mobile sync feature in your screen shot to download content to your mobile device for offline playback.
