police bust targeting movers accused of scamming customers

Moving company in Toronto quote the price, then load your stuff onto their truck. Before they deliver your stuff the movers jack up the price over 400%. Essentially holding your stuff hostage.
The two men had avoided criminal charges for their alleged moving scam, even after years of customer complaints. But when they arrived at their Scarborough, Ont., business park in June, undercover police in more than a dozen vehicles were waiting.

The takedown was immediate.

In the weeks that followed, the charge sheet would grow to more than 800 counts, including fraud, theft and conspiracy, related to more than a dozen moving companies alledgedly operated by the men that moved customers locally and across the country.

Busting movers: Inside the police raid (Marketplace)

Police say these movers quote low, but charge high once they pick up your stuff and hold it ransom for payment. We revisit customers from the last investigation and meet a new customer as she's reunited with her belongings. And wait until you see the dramatic footage of the arrests and our attempt to get answers from company bosses as they're released on bail. As the list of charges grows to the hundreds, we take you inside the bust.
