PPF and insurance

Does anyone know the rules in Ontario surrounding PPF? Do you need to send any notes to the government that you've wrapped the car? Your insurance company?

There's less info online than I expected

Why would you think you'd have to notify anyone if you've had your car PPF'd? Are you changing the colour?

Contact your insurance they would likely need a receipt BUT I have not heard anything where insurance says they will not cover PFF

No need to inform govt. Even if you wrap the car in a different colour it's considered a temporary application. I would inform the insurance just in case there is an accident. They might squawk if confronted with the extra cost to wrap it.

The body shop I went to just added the cost of re-application of ceramic coat/PPF to the estimate. Receipt is obviously required but they seem to know exactly the product brand just by the name of the shop that did the application.

No but if you do a complete colour change then you would need to change the colour on the ownership

That's not true at all. If you change the colour of the entire vehicle (or most of it) whether it's by wrap, paint, plasti-dip or whatever, you need to inform the MTO. Otherwise it's just another reason for police to harass you and pull you over under suspicion of stolen or switched plates/vehicle.

PPF no, as that's clear and doesn't affect identification of the vehicle.

I have spoken to MTO and a wrap is considered a temporary application. If it was changed by paint then, yes, you need to make that change. I wrapped cars for 20 years and didn't have 1 issue with customers.

Unfortunately my brand new vehicle was stolen and it was PPF with clear film to protect the paint/body. I'm waiting on insurance to get back to me? I'm in Ontario, has anyone been denied or approved for PPF reimbursement?
