Price Match item from Amazon to Staples

I wanted to price match Steelseries Apex 3

Amazon
https://www.amazon.ca/SteelSeries-Apex- ... th=1&psc=1

Staples
https://www.staples.ca/products/2968728 ... g-keyboard

Did the online chat with Staples and they won’t do the price match they said the model numbers are different.

They say that
Staples Model: 64795
Amazon Model: 64812

They look like the exact same items, are they not?

They're both showing $79.99 w/FS. What are you PMing and why?

64795 ≠ 64812

Manufacturers sometimes improve a model with a new variant that adds some minor feature. Old and new look identical or almost identical but the innards -- and part numbers/SKUs -- are different.

Manufacturers sometimes reach an agreement with retailers to make a retailer-specific version! See Costco.

Mostly for the purpose of making it difficult to compare between retailers.

See WalMart too.

But that tends to be on higher volume items like TV sets. Essentially identical models except there's one less HDMI port or the headphone jack is missing, etc.

They do it not only to thwart PMing but also to let their best retailers like Costco and WalMart sell essentially the same item at a lower price than their smaller retailers without the latter being able to cry foul.

I have a Mitsubishi Outlander. My neighbour has a Mitsubishi Outlander. They look the same. But I have heated front seats, my neighbour has only heated driver's seat. Our cars are different models.

Doesn't matter if they 'look like' the exact same. They have different model numbers, for whatever reasons, so they don't qualify for price match.
But having said that, they're both $79.99 so what are you price matching, exactly?

I don’t think there is any difference in the keyboards.
In the future, you can try again with another agent. They're not uniformly trained and some are more strict than others.
